Oil on panel · 4 × 6″
This is a small portrait on wooden panel. As indicated in the notes on the Portrait of S., Standing, portraits can evolve depending on the expressive needs of each painting. In this case I had made a few life-sized drawings in charcoal in which I tried to capture the personality and expression of Levis, whom I have known for a long time. I may have made an attempt as full-size on canvas, but the portrait quickly resolved in this small, intimate picture.
As a note- I have found that often I obtain the most expressive and realistic accuracy in small format drawings and finished works.
